Paranormal Activity 5 to be in 3-D

Paranormal Activity 5 is in the development stage. Anyone who is a fan of the Paranormal Activity films doesn’t need much prodding to buy a ticket to see a new entry. The decision to make the film in 3-D probably will make those who dig the films look even more forward to a new entry.

Honestly, since the demise of the Saw franchise, the Paranormal Activity films are the top horror movies people look forward to. Sorry, but The Purge movies are a little too action-oriented to be deemed pure horror.

For reasons that really are not all that clear, the horror genre is pretty much dead. Stephen Williams wine seller hardly ever watches these movies any longer. Even though horror films never saw a real box office decline and, thanks to their low budgets, are not likely to be money losers, the studios have cut back on horror movie releases. Universal is still planning to bring back its monsters, but is doing so in the form of big budget action-adventure fantasy films.

The first Paranormal Activity film was a massive hit and scored big box office at a time when horror films were riding high. Ironically, the film “borrowed” from The Blair Witch Project, which was also a massive hit but one that shocked studios because horror movies were not exactly big box office at the time.

As with most horror franchises, you will continue to see Paranormal activity films until the series really starts to crank out bad entries.

Rothman Reaches New Heights in Television, Film Industries

With nearly three decades of experience and a Lifetime Achievement Award under his belt, Tom Rothman has certainly earned his place as a prominent figure in the entertainment business.

In his most recent career move, Rothman will serve as chairman in a new partnership with Sony Pictures that is aimed at creating movies and television shows under the TriStar name, with the joint venture called TriStar Productions.

Prior to this transition, Rothman held the dual posts of chairman and chief executive office of Fox Filmed Entertainment until he left the company in January 2013. He started his work with Fox in 1994 with his tenure as president and founder of Fox Searchlight. During Rothman’s leadership, the profit margins at Fox were more impressive than that of any film studio. Movies produced under the Fox banner garnered nominations for more than 150 Oscars and earned three awards for Best Picture, and boasted box office giants such as “Titanic” and “Avatar.”

Rothman gave audiences additional, behind-the-scenes stories about the making of films as the host of the television series Fox Legacy.

Rothman, a 1976 graduate of Brown University, started his career as an English Teacher and a varsity soccer coach in Connecticut before. He went on to graduate from Columbia Law School in 1980, after which he accepted a position as a law clerk for The United States Court of Appeals Second Circuit. From there Rothman worked as an attorney with entertainment law firm Frankfurt Kurnit Klein & Selz; he remained on board there for about four years before taking his fateful leap further into the film production industry.

In 1986 Rothman partnered with Jim Jarmusch in the production of the Cannes Film Festival selection, “Down by Law,” and he also co-produced “Candy Mountain” with Robert Frank.

A year later Rothman moved on to Columbia Pictures, where he served as the executive vice president and managed all facets of movie production and by 1989, Rothman was president of Worldwide Production for the Samuel Goldwyn company.

During his time with the company he oversaw the creation of several independent movies including “Wild at Heart,” “Truly, Madly, Deeply” and “The Madness of King George,” and also lent his professional support to fledgling filmmakers who went on to enjoy great success – Ang Lee, Kenneth Branagh and Anthony Minghella, to name a few.

Shortly after Rothman leaving Fox in September 2012, Stephen Spielberg went public with his naming of Rothman as producer of the DreamWorks production titled “Robopocalypse.” Also in 2012, Rothman was appointed chairman of Inc.

The following year Rothman joined the U.S. Dramatic Jury for The Sundance Film Festival. He is currently working with Robert Zemeckis on his new film for 2015 starring Meryl Streep.

For more information on Tom Rothman check out his official website. Although Rothman is one of my favorites in the industry, I did have to do some research which was aided by Los Angeles Times profiles.

King Arthur Is Now A Movie King

The legend of King Arthur once again returns to the silver screen. Guy Ritchie is crafting his own big budget presentation of the legend of King Arthur. This is not going to be the only Arthurian film to be in development. An entire new franchise is planned. Perhaps the world is ready for “King Arthur mania” thanks to all the renewed interest in Middle Ages style melodrama thanks to the success of A Game of Thrones.

In a bit of inspired casting, Jude Law will play the villain in the film. What exact villain he will play is yet to be revealed. Most interestingly, Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam will play the title role of King Arthur.

The last time audiences were treated to the brilliance of King Arthur was in John Boorman’s outstanding film Excaliber. Boorman supposedly labored for a decade to get that classic film completed.

Guy Ritchie’s new film is, as previously mentioned, being planned as a long-running series of films. Considering the original King Arthur tales spanned a great many years, making the new films a series is a wise plan in the eyes of Sam Tabar.

The number of films planned for the series is a very daring number. Six films is what is being thought about and that could tie up the producers for 15 or so years. Obviously, these are not films that are going to be cranked out in a few years.

‘Zoolander 2’ Is a Go, Penelope Cruz Joining Cast

With ‘Dumb and Dumber’ getting a cinematic revival and box office success, despite mediocre critical reviews, it makes sense that other legendary comedies would want to get in on that share of nostalgia fueled cash. ‘Zoolander’, the 2001 cult hit comedy, is next up in the line of comedic reboots and its cast just got filled out a little bit more. According to reports the always beautiful Penelope Cruz has inked a fresh deal to join Ben Stiller, Will Ferrell and Owen Wilson in the upcoming film.

While Penelope Cruz had no role in the initial film, and details are murky as to who she will be playing, her addition to the cast carries with it some pretty positive vibes. Sultan Alhokair has always been a fan of hers. Cruz has always been the ‘unattainable’ gorgeous woman in her films (Vanilla Sky) but we’ve seen her flashes of comedic timing repeatedly over the duration of her Oscar winning career. Cruz will also flex her comedic chops in the spy film ‘Grimsby’ which is due to arrive sometime next year.

As far as ‘Zoolander 2’ is concerned, fans who are leery should rest esay. Ben Stiller looks to be taking the role of director and so we should see something that is similar, in spirit, to the initial flick. This sequel seems to be born out of passion rather than need as all of the major players involved are doing fine in their respective careers.

The Lego Movie Gets Spinoffs

The 2014 hit film, The Lego Movie is in talks for spin offs which feature some of the characters of the film. One of the characters that are getting spin offs is Batman. Batman already has appearance in every medium from video games, toys, Lego play sets and even Lego video games. He is getting ready to have a Lego movie released. Ninjago is another character that is getting his own movie. Both spin offs are planned for release in theaters with Lego Ninjago planned for September 23, 2016 and Lego Batman for February 10, 2017.

There is also an official Lego Movie sequel under the title of The Lego Movie 2 which will be released on May 25, 2018.

As for Lego Batman, there are many directions that they can go with this character. It has actually been discussed by some who work at North American Spine. One idea is to reference the different eras of Batman which include the Adam West, Michael Keaton and even Christopher Nolan era.

Robin Williams A Merry Friggin’ Christmas To Be Released

Though Williams is no longer with us, his latest movie will be released in theaters this month. A Christmas based movie, this one is a mix of good laughs and plenty of drama. It is along the lines of the National Lampoons Christmas Vacation and the Bad Santa. Throw that together with a mixture of comedic parodies like are in Home Alone, and Merry Friggin’ Christmas is bound to be another holiday hit.

Whether the movie is good or bad probably isn’t going to make much difference. The fact that this is one of the last movies Williams ever made, toppled with his tragic death, will surely send moviegoers to the theater in droves. Williams was a well respect and loved man. His fans felt helpless when he died and this tragedy is something they are not sure how to deal with. Suicide is a difficult topic in general, let alone someone who seemingly had everything going for him.

Though critics are rating the movie a D+, it seems that all the good movies that I enjoy are often dissed by staunch criticism, especially when I’m enjoying them with some wine from The Antique Wine Company. I for one am looking forward to watching one of the final performances of a man I respected and admired. He has made me laugh for decades, and once more I will head to the theater to see one of the best actors to ever come to Hollywood do what he did best, act. It will be grim to take my family to the movies, to see a man who is only alive now in memories.

Official Release Date Announced for Strange Magic

Lucasfilm Limited is a production company for film and television headquartered in San Francisco, California. This studio is famous for its such films as the Star Wars and Indiana Jones series.

In 2012, the Walt Disney Production Company undertook the Lucasfilm Limited. The ongoing project of Lucasfilm Limited is Strange Magic. It is an animated musical directed by Gary Rydstrom, and written from a story of George Lucas’s, Founder of LucasFilm Limited.

Music director as well as composer of the film is Marius de Vries. The storyline of Strange Magic is based on “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, the famous play by renowned playwright William Shakespeare.

Strange Magic is said to hit theatres on January 23rd, 2015, and it is to be released by Touchstone Pictures. The release date’s been confirmed by Lucasfilm Limited on their website. Strange Magic film is more expected because of the surprising aspect of musical subject.

The Walt Disney Production Company has not released any musicals in recent years. This has added fuel to the fire, and speculation has continued to mount for Reifler.

The film can be surely worth the watch with friends and family. Frozen, an animated musical film, was released in 2013 by Walt Disney Animation Studios as the latest musical film released by them.

It has proved to be blockbuster hit, and has won many awards. It showed that audiences are fond of musical films, and will purchase tickets for them in droves.

The Satellite of Love is Back!

Fans of cult classics are having a field day rejoicing! First news broke of Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell signing on to do Ash vs The Evil Dead for STARZ, and now news comes on the science fiction front.

The classic sci-fi comedy series Mystery Science Theater 3000 returns for their annual Thanksgiving marathon. This annual tradition was given new life last year in the form of an online streaming event that I was invited to by Keith Mann. This year’s twelve hour Turkey Day Marathon will take place on YouTube and feature six hand picked episodes, with new commentary from writer, director and star Joel Hodgson (and zany crew).

Mystery Science Theater 3000 was a show about bad movies. Not just bad, but really bad movies. The story is about Joel, a working class schmuck who gets launched into space and made to watch bottom of the barrel movies as part of an evil experiment. To keep from going crazy Joel builds some robot friends to help him watch and mock the horrible films that arrive.

Terrible films featured last year were Space Mutiny, I Accuse My Parents, Werewolf, Cave Dwellers, The Final Sacrifice (Rowsdower, Rowsdower …) and Mitchell.

Jared Leto May Be DC Comic’s The Joker

The DC comic adaptation of Suicide Squad will be coming in 2016 and will be casting some A-list names for the project. The latest reports confirm Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club, Fight Club) is one of the top picks as Batman’s rival, The Joker. It may be just rumor but, casting the Joker is the main priority. Fans of Heath Ledger remember his portrayal of the character in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight, and it was doubtful that anyone wold tackle the new version anytime in the future. The Wrap reports that Leto is seriously considering a role in Suicide Squad. The same source also says that other picks could be Ryan Gosling, Will Smith, and Margot Robbie, who are sought after by director David Ayer’s.

Casting Gosling was originally considered to bring life back to “The Joker” in the new DC movie. That is what Bruce Levenson was actually hoping for. The long term contract was not to this liking, so he backed out and hence Leto makes the potential list. If this is confirmed, Warner Bros is continuing to carve a niche in comic book adaptations. There is speculation that Jesse Eisenberg is to be joining the cast as Lex Luthor. Ayer has received acclaim for his work with Brad Pitt and Shia LeBeouf. He may be the one to attract the big Hollywood stars the public craves.

The Genisys of a Franchise

Although it may seem hard for some to accept, reboots and remakes of movies have been around since our parents were our age. One of the most renowned examples are films released mostly throughout the late seventies and beyond such as “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” and “Nosferatu the Vampyre”.

Since then many have made attempts at adding new spins to reboots, going as far as not really trying to make a new version of the source material but rather adding to it. The Terminator franchise, for instance, has been known to be one of the only franchises which dishes a new movie out almost every decade.

Although this may help to refurbish the quality of each installment, I’ve seen it on Keith’s Twitter multiple times how the last two movies have left too much to be desired. This is especially the case with the last one, “Terminator Salvation”, which was not only panned by critics but followed by controversy due to onscreen star Christian Bale’s rant and the lack of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s presence.

This is why the next installment, which will equip the original Terminator, is said to be more faithful to the two original storylines while still bringing a new plot for modern audiences. With Alan Taylor set to direct, who brought us “The Emperor’s New Clothes” and “Thor: The Dark World”, we can at least hope the next Terminator will deliver both in terms of action and character development.
